Proper nounPlural - From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The Middle East (or, formerly more common, the Near East) is a region that spans southwestern Asia, southeastern Europe and northeastern Africa. It has no clear boundaries, often used as a synonym to Near East, in opposition to Far East. The term "Middle East" was popularized around 1900 in the United Kingdom. The corresponding adjective to Middle East is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner. The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, and throughout its history the Middle East has been a major centre of world affairs. The Middle East is also the historical origin of three of the world’s major monotheistic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas. Many countries located around the Persian Gulf have large quantities of crude oil. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Middle East" how did US involvement in the middle east initially start? Q. did it start from WWII? or were we involved way before WWII? what made us want to get in the affairs of the middle east? what was the event that got us involved? -thanks. Asked by Tank yaaa - Fri May 22 14:38:09 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Real American involvement began in the Afghan Civil War with the Soviet invasion, although soldiers weren't directly fighting, there was American support for the Islamic militants that were fighting the Communists. And now these Islamic militants are what America is fighting now. Answered by Leard - Fri May 22 15:22:56 2009 What is the difference in specifications for a Peugot 307 destined for the Middle East versus Europe? Q. I have just purchased a 5 speed manual Peugot 307 XSE 5 dr Hatch privately, although the vehicle is still under new car warranty. It has an annoying shudder / vibration when accelerating out of 2nd gear only. The dealers have established that despite the vehicle having Australian compliance certification, it has the incorrect front springs fitted. The springs are for Middle East specs, which place the car 1.5 inches out of factory tolerance for ride height. The dealer is prepared to have the springs replaced, however I am concerned about what else needs to be checked to varify the correct European specs. For example- drive shafts, engine mounts, tie rods, stays etc. Bottom line, what is the difference between components for Middle East spec… [cont.] Asked by Steve W - Sun Sep 2 05:24:34 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Answered by Be My Angel :] - Sun Sep 2 11:51:14 2007 Should cities in the Middle East start initiatives to paint the roofs white in them to lower temps?
Q. Don't these cities have a heat island effect just like cities in hot locations everywhere do that could be lessened by doing this? It seems like the hotter the city the more it could gain from lowering the tempatures in it even a few degrees. I'm not sure how much air conditioning is used in the middle east but it seems to me that if the cities were a few degrees cooler then the energy demands from those air conditioners would also drop. Wouldn't this be a way for tens of thousends of the people from the poor and middle classes to find good honest work and help to more equally distribute wealth? Also doesn't violence bubble to the surface faster and more intensely the hotter it is? Asked by Stan S - Sat Jun 2 16:54:45 2007 - - 2 Answers - 2 Comments A. that would be a good idea. however, there would not be a noticeable difference in the average temp of the region. keep in mind that roofs constitute something like 0.0001% of the surface area of the region. (yes, that's a guess, but the percentage is very low.) on the other hand, it would lower their energy bill, which would be a good thing. however, if someone would invent a street surface that was white, and as cheap and reliable as tar, that would be a very good thing. all over the world. (well in all the warm parts of the world.) Answered by linlyons - Sat Jun 2 17:41:18 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Middle East"
