The term Evangelical Catholic is used by Christians who consider themselves both "catholic" and "evangelical" (meaning "gospel centered"). Evangelical Catholic (catholic is the noun with evangelical modifying) can refer to: evangelical Protestant Christians who consider themselves catholic Christians that identify with the historic Christian Church, who believe that the early ecumenical councils and the Protestant Reformation were both part of the progressive illumination of the Holy Spirit; Roman Catholics who want to identify themselves more closely with evangelical Protestants with similar ecumenical ideals and "progressive illumination"; Catholics who simply want to define themselves according to a penchant for evangelism. Evangelical Catholics may include Eastern Rite Catholic Churches or other churches that are not Roman Catholic, mainly Anglican, Lutheran, and Methodist.

A. There are many differences to go over that could take pages and pages to lay out. Think of it this way, though - Catholics are rather formal. Prayer and worship is typically layed out in a structured and solemn manner. Evangelicals tend to be more relaxed, and have varying beliefs and doctrines even within their own denomination. You could say that there are mini-denominations within the Evangelical denomination. Typically, yes, Evangelicals are less fond of Catholics than most, as they view formal and structured worship as a detriment to faith, prefering instead the very emotion-based shouting to the lord. It should be understood though, that Catholics are not opposed to that kind of worship and hold praise and worship sessions all… [cont.]

Evangelical worship usually consists of lights, music, and TV screens. At least the ones I have been to. They are usually very lively and upbeat, and there is sometimes dancing and always lots of contemporary music. Sometimes there is a bible reading, sometimes not. The pastor gives a long sermon on the topic of his choice (Catholic priests have a schedule). The problem I usually have with these… [cont.]
