A. Usher Ministry Description Introduction God asks the church to be a fellowship sharing a common purpose and continually growing in faith. Paul describes the church as Christ s body (Ephesians. 1:22). People experience the presence of Jesus Christ in the world through the ministry of the church. When your local church serves the needs of people, members and non-members, it is an expression of the love of Christ. The church is a servant body, created for service. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). Christ calls every member of the church into ministry. Is it alright to take a man's hat off if he wears it into a church if you are a greeter/usher?
Q. I was told to do this and thought it presumptuous so did not. What do you think?
Asked by wispy - Wed Jul 15 21:27:24 2009 - - 8 Answers - 1 Comments
A. It is rude, and it is not your place to touch anyone in that manner. As a greeter it is your job to promote friendliness in the church, to encourage people to attend, and to make it comfortable for them to be in the presence of God, and in a place to worship Him. Which is better, to have a hat on in church, or to upset someone so that they leave the church, and perhaps never come back? Perhaps never go to another church, and judge all churches because they felt you were rude in touching them. What if the person had something "wrong" with their hair, or head? What if they had a very valid reason for leaving that hat on? I would think that IF it could be done quietly, you MIGHT suggest that there is a place to hang their hat [wherever… [cont.]

A. No. And they don't even HAVE to be IN uniforms. There's nothing wrong with it one way or the other. Simply a matter of preference.

Do you think it's wrong to breastfeed in church?
Q. I was at church yesterday and this woman who was sitting behind us was breastfeeding, had a blanket to cover up and the church usher told her to she got to do that in the restroom. I believe that you should be able to breastfeed anywhere you want at anytime because I breastfed in public myself except in a church. Do you think it was wrong for the usher to tell her where to breastfeed?

A. Um... God blessed us women with breast to breastfeed our babies with so the usher was wrong. Did the pastor say anything? Breasts are NOT sex organs so the usher is an idiot. I'm pretty sure God didn't mind that woman breastfeeding in his place of worship.

Can I do my community hours at a church?
Q. Hi, I currently need to do 75 community hours for school and I was wondering if I can do them at a church. My friend is currently an usher for this christians church, and I was wondering if he is authorize to give me the hours, or I need the real pastor. Although, there's a whole bunch of pastors there. My friend told me that what I would be doing is just helping people look for seats, setting the tables, and working in fund raisers. Do you guys think I can do the community hours at church without a problem on my school transcript?
Asked by wise_one - Tue Sep 22 09:31:18 2009 - - 5 Answers - 2 Comments
A. You would have to ask your school -- specifically, whomever set the requirement. There's a pretty good chance that this is not what they have in mind, though. And yes, if you're looking for formal documentation of what you do, you will want someone in charge to authorize and confirm your participation, not a friend to claim "Yeah, they helped me." If your school is public, it's very likely that they will require something not based in religion, as they are required to maintain the separation of church and state: the government cannot support or be seen to support any church or religion over another, and rewarding a student for participating in religious activity could easily be grounds for a lawsuit.

A. Definitely don't wear jeans. First Communion and is a very special occasion and all the kids will be in dresses and suits although I've heard of some that have to wear their school uniform or those cassocks like altar servers! Either way its a formal occasion and everyone will be dressed up and you'll need to fit it. You should wear a dress or skirt/trousers and nice top. No trainers either.

Who can be an usher at a wedding?
Q. Does it have to be family members? Or can it be guys that go to the same church? We have a couple of people in our family, but they are two young. So we were thinking of asking someone who attends the same church we do. Would that be acceptable?
Asked by Jess - Tue Mar 2 20:44:12 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It can be anybody. Ushers have the primary responsibility of welcoming the guests at the door and guiding them inside the venue and where the guests are supposed to be seated. Because of these duties, ushers, to be efficient, should be warm and friendly and definitely not shy to approach and talk to the guests. Most couples prefer relatives or close friends to be ushers, provided they have the characteristics mentioned.

Why was everyone at the new church I went to 65 & up? Are young people not into religion?

A. I don't know, but different churches have different stands on abortion. I totally disagree with his late term abortions, or other abortions for that matter, but for him to be murdered is just making pro-life look bad in some ways. Most anti-abortion people would never condone a murder like that, but some might think they do. And a few might actually say he had it coming, but I hope not. How he rationalized his thinking I don't know. That is something between him and God to work out now. God is his judge, he is beyond human judgment. But his killer is not.

Is the aisle runner rolled out from the front to the back of the church or back to front?
Q. I am going to have the aisle runner layed out right before I walk down the aisle at my wedding. I am really confused on the proper etiquette of which way the aisle runner is rolled out. Is it from the front of the church to the back or from the back of the church to the front? Also, do the ushers just cut it with scissors when it is rolled out or do they leave the roll of left over runner on the floor?

A. The runner should be taped down to the floor by the alter pre-mass and before the bridal party walks down, the ushers should roll it all the way to the back of the church. As long as it's not in the way (nobody will trip over the roll) they don't have to cut it. If it will be in the way hide a utility knife and some tape in the back of the church so they can make quick work of cutting it and taping it down. I highly recommend a paper runner as well. I have been in a few weddings and the plastic ones are very slippery and heels go through them. Good luck and best wishes for your wedding!!

A. I think you are being the better person than her, just in the fact that you are keeping your cool. And that you are going to speak to her about it. There is no church that is perfect(because of the human factor) and perhaps she did not realize how what she said came across to you.I personally would not have done that. For one reason is someone may be coming straight from work.or perhaps sitting with someone in a hospital and did not have time to go home.Even if they did come from home it shouldn't matter.I will tell you I have problem with the backside..it is there I can't change it! Also keep in mind that satan can use other Christian's too..and you could have made the choice never to return and he would have won. After speaking to her ,if [cont.]

Q. I joined a new church last spring and for the most part I have gained so much spiritually since I have been going to this church. However, tonight after Wednesday night service I had an encounter that threw me for a loop. First off, I was raised in a Baptist predominantly Black church where I was very involved, Also, I have old school parents that instilled in me how a young lady is suppose to conduct herself. I am a single mom, so I'm not a saint, but I'm not an immoral woman by any stretch. Tonight after church this lady that is a greeter/usher at the church took me off to the side and said "FYI, When you come to church you should wear something that covers (and done a hand gesture meaning above the chest). Creationists: Was James Usher the Archbishop of Armagh a help or hindrance?
Q. In 1650 the Archbishop of Armagh James Usher of the Church of Ireland (Protestant) was the first to purpose that the Universe was created in the years 4004 BC his other scholarly ideas, included the belief that the pope was Antichrist, Oliver Cromwell was content to allow James Usher an Anglican bishop to be buried in Westminster is a clear indication of the respect in which Ussher was held, even by those who were ideologically opposed to him. And indeed, after his death Ussher's reputation as a saintly scholar ensured that his posthumous endorsement was sought by a wide range of writers and ecclesiastical leaders, from the seventeenth century nonconformists to the nineteenth century Oxford movement. This man's somewhat ludicrous… [cont.]

A. As Christians, we are told to 'lightly esteem' ourselves. God said if you don't believe Moses you won't believe me (46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" John 5:46,47) So I just wanted to say that Moses wrote the first 5 books of the bible - and yes that means creationism etc. So if an archbishop in ancient times expressed an opinion we have a responsibility to weigh it. Personally if God said He created - I believe Him. If He said that he created Adam as a 30 year old guy, I believe Him. If He said He created rock in a day that our scientists claim are millions of years old it's Him that I believe. I heard a… [cont.]
